Monnickendam ist eines der netten, viel besuchten Fischer-Städtchen am Ijsselmeer. Die Vergangenheit ist hier in hübsch renovierte Häuschen verpackt. Fangfrisches kann man sich in vielen kleinen Restaurants bzw. “kroegen” am Hafen schmecken lassen. In den Räucherhütten gibt es u. a. frischen Räucheraal zu kaufen.
