Das malerische Villefranche war wegen seiner natürlichen Bucht schon im Altertum ein wichtiger Hafenplatz. Das makellose Halbrund der Bucht zog auch den Maler und Schriftsteller Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) an. 1957 schmückte er die Fischerkapelle St-Pierre (14. Jh.) mit Motiven aus der Bibel und dem Leben der Zigeuner aus. Sehenswert ist außerdem die Rue Obscure, die gedeckte Straße, die unter den Häusern der Altstadt hindurchführt.
