Die Parkanlagen Sanssouci, Neuer Garten, Babelsberg, Glienicke und die Pfaueninsel in Potsdam gehören seit 1990 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Schloss Sanssouci als prominenteste Sehenswürdigkeit ist gleichzeitig das Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Nach eigenen Skizzen ließ der preußische König Friedrich der Große in den Jahren 1745-47 ein kleines Sommerschloss im Stil des Rokoko errichten. Das größte Schloss der Stadt ist das barocke Neue Palais. Es gilt als letzte bedeutende Schlossanlage des preußischen Barocks. Das Orangerieschloss im Stil der italienischen Renaissance wurde in den Jahren 1851-64 erbaut.
