General Description The Catana 471 is a well known performance catamaran from the Catana boatyard in Canet-en-Rousillon France designed by Christophe Barreau. It is considered the "sweet spot" of the Catana range for the right mix of performance, accomodations and ocean crossing sea keeping abilities with many vessels completing circumnavigations.MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLE VIA GOOGLE DRIVE LINK ON REQUESTThe cockpit of a Catana 471 is vast. The two offset and raised helm stations make sail trimming easy and allow the helmsman to keep an eye on the boat and its crew at all times. Mainsail hoisting, reefing and dousing are all handled by a central Harken 53 electric speed winch on the aft beam keeping crew safe within the confines of the cockpit without the need to go to the mast. The wide flush side decks remove slip, trip and fall hazards as there are no ropes or hatches to stumble upon while moving forward at sea. The North Sails polymer trampoline is extremely comfortable under foot when hoisting the spinnaker or weighing anchor and is a great place to relax at sea in modest weather conditions.Engine Description: 2 x Volvo D2-55A 55HP 2L 4 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engines (5100 hours each) - No troublesome electronic MDI as on newer models with the same engine block Oil/filter and fuel filter changes every 100 to 150 hours depending on oil disposal availability. (Volvo manual states 200 hours)The Volvo D2 Series engines are rebranded Shibaura Japanese tractor engines which have been marinized by Perkins/Volvo after they purchased the Shibuara Factory. Both engines are simply constructed, running beautifully and are straight forward to maintain. Currently equipped with brand new 60A alternators. Port Saildrive Volvo S130 (2014 by previous owner) Volvo 3 Blade folding Props x 2 (2014 by previous owner) Starboard Saildrive Volvo MS25S (Factory Original - built more robust than the S130 in my opinion, but unable to withdraw oil fully from drive leg without a haul out).Element has generally been hauled out annually or just prior to a major passage with sail drive shaft seals and zincs replaced annually.Engines inspected and serviced by Volvo (2015) Heat Exchanger Service x 2 (refit 2023) Racor 500 Fuel filters replacing Volvo cyclone filters (2015) New RAW water hoses (refit 2023) New Port engine RAW water Pump (2016) Stb Oil Sump and Rear Crankshaft Seals x 2 (2019) 2 x New Stainless Exhaust Elbows (refit 2023) New Engine Mounts (refit 2023) New engine circulation hoses, fuel lines, exhaust hoses and alternator v-belts (refit 2023) Engine rooms repainted (refit 2023) All engine gaskets replaced, except head gasket (refit 2023) Addition of NEW Kus Engine gauge Clusters and engine sensors (refit 2023) Custom K&N air filters (2022) 2 x 110A Serpentine Belt Alternators Upgrade (NEW in BOX - require new engine pulley kits for installation) Saildrive bellows have recently expired in 2023. A NEW one in the box is currently on hand, with another on order. Both will be replaced prior to sale completion.Accommodation Description The raised salon of the Catana 471 with its forward facing navstation and linear aft facing galley comfortably accommodates up to eight people allowing panoramic ocean views that may be enjoyed while seated around the folding salon table. Two forward opening hatches combined with the sliding glass door and window aft provide excellent salon ventilation... Especially while cooking. Cushions of the U-shaped Salon, are constructed using high-resilience, extra thick Bultex foam, for optimum comfort with large storage areas beneath. Cushions have recently been re-covered with red leatherette for ease of cleaning. Three double cabins with large berths and extra large opening "Moonlight" portholes continue the trend of offering a superb sea view from the berths, as well as from the Owner's bathroom located forward in the starboard hull. The hull passageways are fitted out with a variety of generous cabinetry and storage areas with additional interior shelving being added to the stateroom closets. All interior furniture and flooring is constructed of foam-cored sandwich for lightness and rigidity. Cabinetwork and inner surfaces are Cherry wood veneer trimmed in teak using the Oberflex process (maintenance free). Ceilings are isothermal and ultra light, with easy to clean soft touch vinyl covered access panels in bright ivory surrounded by beige Alcantra trim. All floors are in teak veneer with black grooves utilizing the Stratifil process (maintenance free). Interior brightness has been enhanced with the installation of 7 additional LED lighting fixtures to the salon and galley.Galley Description Linear shaped galley facing aft, with large kitchen countertop in "starry night" Corian with covers for a sink and the stove adding further valuable counter space. Numerous storage cabinets with hidden trash can compartment and double stainless sinks. The 200 L top loading fridge with sliding storage baskets has thick insulation, with anti-condensation facing and double sealant on the opening. The Frigoboat refrigeration/freezer systems are extremely efficient in the tropics with electronic thermostat controls, utlizing keel cooled heat exchangers attached to each hull as Catana original factory equipment. The 100 L Stainless steel deep freeze is custom fitted on the galley port side. Taps with ceramic seals - Mixer tap with shower rose for fresh water (hot and cold) - Drain/testing tap for water maker - Force 10 3-burner 100% stainless steel stove with ovenElectrical Systems: DC Electrical System: 12V AC Electrical System: 220v @ 50hz4 x 304Ah LiFePO4 (1200Ah Total) House Battery Bank. Each battery is composed of 4 x 304Ah EVE Cells and managed by independent 200A JK Battery Management Systems with 2A active balancing between cells, Bluetooth Control via cellphone or tablet and Monitoring utilizing Victron GX Device communication integration. Batteries have been "marinized" to minimize corrosion and vibration within standardized battery cases. Each Battery is independently switched and fused for safety and redundancy and are connected to the DC system via a Victron Lynx Power-in Module. The Sail East Malaysia Rally departs Pangkor in late March / early April and meets up with the Sail Indonesia Rally in July which returns to Pangkor in late October. The current owner's took part in the 2019 Sail Indonesia Rally which exceeded all expectations and offered fantastic scuba diving opportunites, attendance to cultural activities / events and great socialization with fellow international sailors.Additional detailed photos of the Catana 471 "Element" are available for viewing via Google drive. Please contact us to share a link. Element will continue to be maintained and upgraded with tertiary refit projects by the current owners in Pangkor Marina until the vessel is sold.
