Murdoch Classic Sloop 'Wyvern II' built in Antwerp as a cruiser/racer, something that was a new concept at the time. The builder and designer, Bob Murdoch, commissioned W.R. Murdoch Classic Sloop 55 'Wyvern II' built for himself, a second copy was intended for sale.Bob Murdoch had the W.R. Murdoch Classic Sloop 55 'Wyvern II' designed as a handy cruiser, but she soon also proved to be a fast sailor. Because he wanted to compare her performance with other sailing yachts, he registered for a sailing competition, the North Sea Race of 1947. The weather was light and she promptly came first in her class.
