Commissioned by the renowned Gothenburg architect Nernst Hansson, designed by Bertil Bothén, and built at Mobergs Varv, this yacht is a testament to superior craftsmanship and elegant design, completed in 1938.Initial commission and design: Hansson, an avid Nordic 5 1/2 m sailor, envisioned an enlarged version with ample room for family adventures. The result was Iris III, a yacht that has been lovingly maintained and preserved throughout the decades.Gothenburg shipowner Trapp followed Hansson as the owner, maintaining Iris in pristine condition. In 1965, Malmö doctor Bruno Dahlberg acquired the yacht, renaming it Gyneka VI and racing extensively from Limhamn.Under Dahlberg's ownership, a new doghouse was added in 1967, and Iris featured prominently in the book "Skånes goda sidor." In 1973, pilot Mario Pinotti purchased the yacht, renaming her Lady Sex and experimenting with hydrodynamics and weight-saving modifications.Current features and upgrades:
Restored original name: In 1979, the current owners, seasoned sailors from the M30 No. 12, Mariana, restored the yacht's original name, Iris, and continued its legacy of meticulous care and enhancement.
Modern amenities: Iris has been upgraded with modern electronics, cooling, and heating systems. Sail handling has been optimized with new halyards and reefing lines moved to the cockpit for safer sailing.
Structural Improvements: In the winter of 2003-2004, Iris underwent significant upgrades at Jungfrusund Marina, including surface epoxy treatment below the waterline for a stiffer hull, and new coamings for the cockpit and wheelhouse.
Enhanced sailing performance: A new mainsail in 2005 and simplified headsail handling with furling genoa have significantly improved performance. The electrical system overhaul has enhanced battery capacity for longer voyages.
New Engine: In the winter of 2018-19, the engine was upgraded from a Volvo Penta to a more powerful Yanmar, ensuring reliable and efficient power.Iris is more than just a yacht; it's a floating piece of history, elegantly blending classic design with modern functionality. Perfect for discerning sailors and collectors alike, Iris offers a unique opportunity to own a truly timeless vessel.
