Boat Overview
HEYHU is an exemplary model of one of the most sought-after offshore cruising boats globally. Designed by Robert Perry, she features a moderate displacement and a good righting moment, allowing for the carriage of cruising gear without compromising performance. She is easily driven and performs exceptionally well in a good breeze.

Construction Details
Built in 1985 by craftsmen at King Dragon Yachts in Taiwan, HEYHU is constructed of solid fiberglass, heavily laid up with 24 oz roving. The keel is made of cast iron encapsulated in fiberglass, ensuring durability. The underbody design is similar to the renowned Valiant 40, with a long fin and skeg-hung rudder.

Rigging and Sailing Features
HEYHU is a masthead sloop/cutter equipped with a removable inner forestay, inline spreaders, and runners, making it ideal for a double headsail rig for long downwind passages. She is beautifully balanced, fast, and has a sea-kindly motion, allowing for easy short-handed sailing. The boat comes with both mechanical and electronic self-steering systems.

Cockpit and Protection
The cockpit is fully protected from the elements with a Bimini top, dodger, and sides. The standing rigging was renewed in 2013, with chain plates replaced 5 in 2024 and 3 in 2013. The running rigging is in good condition.

Engine Specifications
HEYHU is powered by a reliable Perkins 55 HP diesel engine, regularly serviced and starting first time every time. The engine was compression tested by a mechanic and found to be in excellent working order. Access to the engine is facilitated by removable panels on all sides, and the engine space is insulated for silent operation.

Included Equipment
Included with HEYHU is a 2022 Highfield Ultralight 290 RIB dinghy and a 9.9HP Tohatsu 2-stroke outboard engine. The boat features 440W solar panels mounted on the stern arch and a D400 wind generator, providing ample power for the fridge/freezer and daily electronic needs. Additionally, a 35 GPH desalinator runs off a Honda 2000 gas generator.

Maintenance and Upgrades
All known issues associated with the Passport 40 have been addressed, including chain plates, elbows, water tanks, and teak decks, which have been recaulked and replugged, retaining significant thickness with no leaks. The standing rigging was recently inspected and found to be sound.

Owner’s Comments
The current owner describes HEYHU as having classic lines, a solid teak interior, and excellent all-around performance. It is a bluewater vessel offering comfort, safety, and fun. The spacious interior and galley provide a comfortable living space. The ceiling insulation and large hatches ensure good airflow and temperature control. The owner has enjoyed sailing and living aboard with their family.

Owner’s Comments and Boat History
Starting in 2010, HEYHU underwent significant upgrades initiated by the original owners and completed in 2013 by past owners in preparation for extended cruising. Upgrades included:

Chain plates removed and inspected
Standing rigging replaced
Full complement of electronics installed
Electrical system rewired
New main and jib sails
New seacocks and hoses
Other equipment replaced as needed

Past inspections found the vessel to be structurally sound and in very good cosmetic condition, both interior and exterior. No significant issues were noted, and the vessel’s systems and equipment are functioning as intended, complying with all USCG required standards. The engine is in good working order and running strong, with sails showing light use.
Purchased in December 2017 for cruising with a family of three in the Caribbean, HEYHU has proven to be a strong seaworthy boat. The wind vane performed exceptionally well, providing relief for the hydraulic autopilot during long passages. The boat has been kept in dry dock during hurricane seasons and has undergone cosmetic work and bottom painting in January 2024.
