„BP Valentino“, designed by Fabio Buzzi, built and rigged at Fabio’s shipyard FB Design Srl. in 1993/1994.
With a price tag of +10 million without engines, „BP Valentino“ was the last and the most advanced Class 1 boat built by Fabio Buzzi. The hull is 46 feet and 3.4 meters wide. The hull was originally fitted with two SeaTek diesel engines, each of approx. 1,100 hp.
The boat is built with Kevlar 49 and fiberglass S for strength and the lowest possible weight.
The hull of the BP Valentino is with its history and achievements to this day one of the world’s fastest and most successful Class 1 hulls.
As a certified Class 1 boat, BP Valentino has documented speeds of over
160 mph. during the 1990s. That’s remarkably fast considering
that in 2022, 29 years after it was built, it is still described as „Class 1
boats“ in that, the fastest, „can achieve speeds in excess of 160 mph“.
Technically, even by today’s standards, the boat is equipped with the most advanced balancing systems available such as front ballast tanks for changing the center of gravity, aerodynamic front flaps to reduce lift, centered stern flaps to adjust compression in the tunnel in addition to traditional trim flaps on each side of the stern and a unique design for the rudder system.
At the time, the world record was set by Andreas Ove Ugland on Lake Como in Italy with the boat „BP Valentino“ on the 10th. December 1993 with a speed of 233.61 km/h or 126.14 knots and with that Andreas Ove had beaten the world record of Al Copeland. A record that had stood undefeated since 1986. Reggie and Fabio set yet another world record with the boat „BP Valentino“ shortly afterwards in the USA. At that time they drove from the west to east coast offshore with an average speed of 158.31 mph corresponding to 254.78 km/h or 137.57 knots.
Top speed was measured at over 162 mph / 261 km/h or 141 knots.
