The 1978 Down East 38 is a well-built, long-keeled, staysail schooner designed for serious voyaging. With its sturdy fiberglass construction and classic teak deck, this two-masted yacht offers both durability and timeless style.

The foremast is deck-mounted, and the aft mast is keel-stepped, both made of aluminum with stainless steel steps for easy access. The staysails are mounted on booms with travelers that can be controlled from the cockpit, providing excellent sail handling.

Equipped with a furling Yankee jib and a traveler for the main boom on the aft deck, the rig is set up for both ease of use and performance.
