What is the ADAC International Boat License?
ADAC Sportschifffahrt has been in existence since 1911, and we have been issuing the International Boat License for Recreational Boats (IBS) for more than half a century. We therefore dare to call ourselves experts in the field of international boat licenses. Since 1989, we have been issuing the IBS on behalf of the BMDV and on the basis of the BinSchKlFzVO and UNECE Resolution. To our knowledge, we operate one of the largest boat registers in Europe with more than 100,000 registered boats.
The ADAC International Boat License is valid internationally for two years. In Germany, it also remains valid indefinitely as long as there are no changes to the registered data.
Our customers praise our service, and authorities praise our careful checking and issuing. The ADAC International Boat License is available to all German citizens and foreign citizens with a permanent German registered address and is valid for all recreational boats that are not chartered or used commercially. It is also valid for jet skis for use outside Germany.

How does boat registration work for business customers?
As an IBS business customer, you submit the online applications (depending on the selected agreement) for your customers yourself. This currently works in the same way as the classic online application for the IBS and has the advantage that the registration (international boat license) can be handed over to the customer upon delivery or, as an additional service, you can attach the license plate to the boat in advance. It is important to ensure that applications are complete and correctly submitted and that there is good cooperation.
How do you become an ADAC Sportschifffahrt business customer?
ADAC Sportschifffahrt business customers are companies, dealers, and traders who sell recreational boats and want to offer their customers or buyers even more service. The international boat license for the purchased recreational boat is thus supplied immediately upon sale. (Chartering is excluded from this.)
